Urgent: Known issue under investigation with KB974571 and LCS/OCS

October 24 Update - The MS09-56: Vulnerabilities in CryptoAPI could allow spoofing article has been updated with a Known Issues section and FIX for the LCS and OCS product. That article is the authorized content as it requires the proper groups to coordinate and confirm the data published. We thank those of you who both reported this issue to us as well as helped blog/tweet to help reduce the number of customers deploying the patch until this issue is resolved.

We also want to note that for future issues with security fixes should be reported through support in order to be properly tracked and escalated and that it will be the official communication vehicle.

This update broke it on my clients that are running communicator too (on a Vista and two Windows 7 machines in IT at least).  Uninstalling the update made it work again.
We won't be pushing that one out..

Hey!

Thanks for the link that solved the problem, I had just finished installing a OCS deployment for our company the night before the update so I was really confused when I woke up and it stopped working :>

I'm happy I found the team blog, I'm interested in seeing what I can do with this platform.

Any word on when this might be fixed? Originally you were hoping to have it completely quickly, but we are almost a week out now and no news yet on it being resolved.  Uninstalling the update off my servers (OCS and Edge were both effected by it) did solve the issue... i am just waiting for a bunch of Windows 7 clients to be killed by it.

Our LCS 2005 SP1 server stopped working after Windows Updates including the patch KB974571 were applied to the Windows Server 2003 it was running on. We tried uninstalling the patch to no effect. Our software support supplied a fix which we ran and it said there was nothing wrong. However the LCS service continues to start up and then almost as immediately stop. There is no record in Event Viewer of what error is preventing. Even restoring the server back to pre-update times has failed to resolve the problem. We have Office Communicator 2005 clients as well.

Latest suggestion is that after Windows Updates was the first time the LCS server had been rebooted since our Exchange Server 2003 service was decommissioned. We now have LCS 2005 SP1 and Exchange Server 2007. Are there any compatibility problems between these two?
